Her story.
01The Clinician
A first-generation Ghanaian American, Dr. Boateng began in pre-med until she realized the question that truly held her was not how the body works, but what makes a person who they are. With 18 years of clinical experience, Dr. Boateng has served as an adjunct professor in Marriage and Family Therapy and completed advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). In 2016 she opened Boateng Psychotherapy in Philadelphia, a private practice specializing in work with individuals and couples in high achievement. Her work is depth-oriented and relationship-centered.
02The Voice
Dr. Boateng brings a clinician’s insight to the public conversation, with more than 40 media features in The Washington Post, CNN, NBC News, The Wall Street Journal, ESSENCE, HuffPost and Refinery29. Her commentary works to reshape the narrative around mental health, especially for Black women and first-generation achievers, who are so often celebrated for their strength and so rarely asked how they are.
03The Founder
Her doctoral research on spiritual bypass led to a question she now carries into every room: what happens when the drive that builds a life also keeps a person from what lies beneath it? That question became Ambition Well, the firm she founded to care for the person behind the performance.
04In Service
She serves on the steering committee of the Behind the Scenes Foundation and the board of Production Wellness House, and is part of the consultant directories of Hollywood, Health & Society at USC Annenberg and CBS. She is a trusted speaker for the American Psychological Association, the American Institute of Architects, ThinkLA, Black Enterprise, Pinterest, Academy Gold and Cannes Lions. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
